Admissions/Enrolment

Admissions

All nursery places are allocated in line with Glasgow City Council’s Admissions and charging policy for early years. All applications are banded and are taken to an admissions panel where the Head of Establishment's from neighbouring nurseries come together to review the applications and allocate places.

Our panel members consist of Eastwood Nursery School, Shaw Mhor Early Years Centre, Limetree Day Nursery, Deanpark Nursery School and Carmichael Nursery School.

The panel meets three times a year to review applications and allocate places. If we are unable to allocate your first choice of place we will then try to place the application with another nursery at the panel. Only one application form should be completed and handed in to your first choice nursery. Please note not all the nurseries present at the panel can accommodate under threes. Please refer to GFIS for nursery information and age groups.

Enrolment

Once you have been offered and accepted a place at Eastwood Nursery we will contact you and arrange a date and time for you to come in and complete all the paperwork necessary for you child starting nursery.  At that meeting you will be given a date for your child to start here and together we will discuss with you, the settling in process that best suits your child's needs. We look forward to meeting you!

Settling

We have a pre-entry programme for all new parents and children. Parents are asked to settle their child in the playroom until they have become familiar with their key worker and other staff in the nursery environment. This also gives the parent time to complete the child's care plan to ensure we are providing the best possible care for your child.

Changes can be stressful at any stage in life, but for young children they can be particularly challenging. Starting nursery can make demands on children as they learn to cope with new situations. Parents also need support to cope with change and new situations. Because of this, the sensitive care and attention given to ensuring smooth transitions is extremely important, taking into account the importance of responsive care we have devised a flexible settling process. Every child is different and it is important to remember that each child's settling programme will be different.

The Key worker System

The keyworker is responsible for a group of children.  They are also responsible for building relationships with parents/carers.  Over a period of time, the keyworker can build up a picture of each child’s skills, abilities and interests, and can plan appropriate learning experiences for each child.

Key workers also have responsibility for the physical environment of the play area to ensure that is used effectively and that appropriate resources and experiences are available for the children.
